Qualcomm is a very competent technology company in the wireless communication world and a top cell phone chip manufacturer globally.
Like many large technology companies, Qualcomm invests heavily into R&D, seeking new growth areas while maintaining its leadership position in its core strengths.
The success in the past and established business relations with current partners may limit people's desire to push for new business models and areas.
To be truly forward-looking, management has to understand market and technology, be able to set a vision for new products with persistence, but also be able to acknowledge strategic errors and correct the course when convincing proofs are shown.
