I was contacted by the recruiter over email, and she scheduled an initial video tech screening interview. I was given two problems, and I solved both fairly quickly, with about 10 minutes left in the interview. The interviewer verified that my solutions were correct and that there was no further performance improvement possible. I answered all their questions, and they seemed satisfied with my answers.
Two days later, I received a generic rejection email stating that they "unfortunately decided not to move forward at this time" because "there's a mismatch between our needs and what you are looking for in your next career."
Why waste my time if there was a mismatch to begin with? Wasn't this mismatch obvious in the initial conversation?
I'm still wondering what the interviewer derived from the interview that led them to conclude there is a mismatch. I replied to the recruiter asking her to mention specifically what exact needs were not matched, but she hasn't replied. Being in the software industry for a while, I don't expect to hear back either.
Stop being frivolous with candidates' time. Our time is important too.
