Process
Had a phone screen with the hiring manager.
Quickly reviewed resume, job description, and motivations. Then moved onto derivation of equations.
On site consisted of making a presentation about your background and some key projects. Interview team consisted of the hiring manager and several engineers (of all experience levels).
After the presentation, there was a tour, followed by 3x 1:1 sessions.
Questions
Questions were largely about the skill set of the interviewer and had minimal relation to the job requisition.
Question topics included:
- Beam bending with shear/moment diagrams
- Stress regimes in combustion chamber cooling channels
- Bi-metallic structures under thermal load
- System blowdown characteristics

Pros: The company is really picking up momentum in the Terran R program. After a "successful" first launch, there was some churn in the company with a somewhat uncertain future.
New leadership emerged, some ineffective leaders are gone, and the company is turning a corner. The leadership has taken active steps over the first half of this year, from addressing engineering staffing, to ensuring we are all on the same page about establishing a productive work culture.
The company is united in one direction, and lessons learned from the Terran 1 program are being applied to the new program. I have been at the company for years, and I am more confident in the future of the company than ever before.
Cons: It's clear some individuals and some teams are underperforming against expectations. This can have a negative effect on motivation to be a high performer. The company could be more proactive in addressing this.

Pros: Terran R is a cool program, and it is a massive rocket. It has great culture and people. Leadership is super invested in the people and the work.

Pros: - Improving the physical environment; better workspaces and food are in the works.
- Great and epic possibilities if Terran R flies successfully.
Cons: - HR policies are inconsistent. The HR department is beholden to whatever your manager wants to do that day.
- Key managers have no leadership experience and no interest in learning human skills.
- No priority is placed on employee education or advancement.
- Questions on long-term company viability are about on par with other startups.
