Neat product to work on. Awesome to see consumer reactions to the vehicles. Flexible schedules and vacation policy.
The company is defined by chaos and constant change. Leadership is incapable of providing a coherent overall strategy and sticking to it.
The result is many organizations working in silos with poor communication. Projects are constantly started, paused, cancelled, and/or restarted, and contractors are whipped around.
Rivian doesn't go far in building relationships and trust with external partners. There is high turnover with frequent hiring and firing cycles. Layoff cycles are brutal with little notice. It's a matter of wrong place, wrong time.
Also, there's significant arrogance amongst the tech/startup bros and ex-Tsla crowd. If you don't come from one of those groups and don't already have an internal network, good luck.
Lots of not-so-senior employees are in senior positions because they have buddies already in the company.
High-quality employees are leaving. Get your act together and focus on a few core projects. Ridiculously stupid cash burn on projects started that went absolutely nowhere. Embarrassing how we've left so many vendors and business partners high and dry. Present a cohesive overall company strategy and timeline, and align all organizations to work on the same timeline. When market conditions prompt change, pivot and adjust from there, rather than the current approach of "drop it like it's hot." Also, no need for useless positions like Chief Sustainability Officer. Do you need a "Chief" to tell you that electricity should come from renewable resources or that we shouldn't be building out gas-fired heaters anymore? Most of our materials are still manufactured in China and shipped from there. If sustainability is as important as you claim, a first step is looking at the supply chain. Doesn't require a Harvard grad to tell you that.
The interview process is extremely time-consuming and lasted for over a month. It doesn't even seem like they're interested in hiring anyone other than someone like Elon Musk. I had a near-perfect interview with extremely relevant work experience, a
It was a staged, one-round rejection interview, linked to my current employer. The phone call with the internal recruiter was all fine and crystal clear, and I knew I had passed. The recruiter kept asking why my current company was not a good fit. T
30 min phone screening. Then talk with hiring manager. If success, there will be presentation with the group. Finally, one to one interview. The whole process could take months. A lot of time, you are left in the dark. No follow up for weeks.
