Pros

A lot of problems to solve. Not very competitive (in the end, most of the super-talented and highly competitive people go to better companies). Working remotely and opportunity for over-employment (I am sure half of our team is doing that).

Cons

Mismanagement and corrupted directors; a relational-based rather than merit-based workplace.

Advice to Management

The excessive funding (IPO in this case) of companies, such as Rivian, can lead to inefficiencies and corruption within the organization. Despite having a promising product, mission, and engineering team, the current leadership at Rivian has fallen short. The allocation of a significant budget to the directors and managers has resulted in the hiring of inexperienced individuals with personal connections, ultimately hindering the growth and success of the company. Furthermore, the lack of accountability among the leaders has resulted in previous rounds of layoffs, demonstrating their inability to effectively manage the company's resources. The managers are learning the job through trial and error, at the cost of the company and its shareholders. Unless the management is held accountable for their decisions, it is likely that the company will continue to suffer from poor leadership and decision-making.
