After applying for one position, I received a call from a recruiter who talked me into applying to a different position. This recruiter walked me through the process and coordinated all future interviews for me.
I then had a 20-minute formal phone interview with my potential supervisor. Shortly after that phone interview, the recruiter called me to ask me how it went, and I think that I was offered the position that day.
After that, there was a week or two of another recruiter calling me to get background check information correct. This seemed tedious, but I appreciated how communicative and transparent the process was. Also, I applied for the job while living out of state, and the recruiter and supervisor were very accommodating and flexible throughout the process.
