Software Engineer Interview Experience

Process

I had an initial phone call with a recruiter and then later had a 1-hour long technical phone screen with an engineer.

The interviewer was friendly but had a heavy accent and was difficult to understand.

The engineer gave me the sliding window maximum problem and then made me solve it in linear time, which I did. The engineer then followed up with questions about the sliding window maximum problem mixed with limited memory. This is where the engineer lost me.

After that discussion went downhill, we discussed how to write a concurrent, thread-safe List data structure with constant time operations. I had no problems designing this.

Overall, I thought the interview went well, but I guess it didn't, as I was rejected the next day.

Questions

Sliding Window Maximum

Follow up: Solve it in linear time.

How would you implement a List with good concurrent semantics for read/delete operations?
