Pros
  • Many smart, nice people.
  • Company values are easy to get behind, and alignment is really good.
  • Outstanding benefits, pay, and VTO.
  • Tons of training available, with room for movement within the company.
  • Lots of hard problems to solve.
Cons

Everything is centered around keeping Individual Contributors happy, but Managers & above do not get the same treatment.

Politics are awful among those wrangling for influence & looking to climb.

Top-down decisions are pushed onto managers and teams.

Too many meetings.

Unproductive build environment for thousands of engineers, and forced use of homegrown tools & technologies that are inferior to commercial & open source ones.

It's a HUGE company with different subcultures in different divisions; this just describes one.

Advice to Management
  • Treat your managers the way you treat ICs: grant them respect and autonomy.
  • Keep working on removing bias from the hiring process.
