I applied online and was given a 1-hour online coding screen interview with a developer.
The interviewer asked me to read the question on CoderPad and ask if I had any questions.
The question did not define highly specific input and output formats, so I had to ask for those from the interviewer.
Unlike most interviews that strive for correctness, this interview was more focused on testing object-oriented design skills and TDD. For example, I initially proposed outputting the answer as tuples instead of objects, but the interviewer pushed me towards creating objects without much further direction.
I didn't realize this was what they were looking for until I received the rejection email. I was pretty shocked because I finished the whole interview 15 minutes early, didn't receive any negative feedback from the interviewer, and was able to solve the problem without struggling.
The appointment email actually said, "No need to prepare" for the first interview, but it seems there were more dimensions to it than advertised.
Your code will be required to compile and run in CoderPad, and you will be running your code against predetermined tests that you have to copy and paste into the terminal. So, make sure you actually know all the APIs you are going to use.
Hopefully, other developers will be able to read this to avoid repeating the same mistakes. Good luck, everyone.
