I spoke with the hiring manager one time by phone for 5 minutes. He told me I was "interesting" and wanted to talk to me more. Two days later, I hadn't heard back, so I emailed him to ask for an update. He then scheduled me for another interview, this time on Skype.

We spoke again on Skype for only 5 minutes, discussing globally the same topics as the first time. To be honest, I felt this was rather pointless.

Then, I was scheduled for another interview with a "real" developer. I believe this interview went well. We discussed the tech stack they were using, what I enjoyed doing, my development environment, and why I preferred one programming language over another.

There were no "technical" questions.

The day after the interview, I received a call informing me that they would be moving forward with another candidate because I lacked sufficient "experience."

I find this reason particularly amusing because:

• I applied for an internship, not a Senior Developer position. I am confused about their expectations for interns. What is the point of applying for an internship if you already have significant experience? The purpose of an internship is to gain experience.

• They themselves stated that at Shopify, many developers are self-taught. They value self-learning and self-teaching abilities over a diploma, and all employees learn from each other.

They should stop using so many buzzwords in their speeches and job postings. Their expectations seem unrealistic.

No questions were difficult.
