Shopify is extremely intentional. Often, this is good. For such a large company, there is little bureaucracy. If leadership decides powerful new Macbooks will increase productivity, they make it happen and order the entire company new laptops.
However, the flip side is that when leadership decides on something that negatively impacts employees (e.g., layoffs, re-orgs, banning useful tools and software used by employees, introducing inefficient processes, etc.), they just do it with absolutely zero transparency or discussion. Worse, the leadership has become extremely detached from employees and is starting to make more of these negative impact decisions.
Sadly, I feel like Tobi and leadership aren't just out-of-touch with their employees, but have bought into the whole Elon Musk approach of actually having disdain for their employees.
Be more human.
There were multiple rounds of interviews, and they were pretty straightforward, mirroring the process listed on the website: * A first recruiter call * Multiple pair programming interviews * A life story interview
The interview process begins with an initial assessment that resembles an IQ test, followed by a Life Story interview. If you succeed, there's a pair programming round. Finally, if you pass that, another pair programming exercise with a technical dee
The interview process was straightforward: * HR interview * Coding test * Hiring manager interview There was no take-home assignment, which was great. The recruiter was very nice and informative, and I appreciated all the context she provided
