I applied for a C++ Software Engineer position, even though I am a Java developer and had no professional experience with C++.
They sent me a coding challenge on HackerRank. After I passed that test, I was interviewed by HR first, and then by three managers in the final round.
I stated that I do not have professional experience with C++ and Linux, except for what I've done in my free time and hobbies. Both HR and the managers said that it was okay, because they are looking for someone who can learn quickly and is interested in these technologies. I confirmed my interest.
They asked technical questions, and I believe I answered about 90% of them correctly. I was feeling very confident that I might receive an offer after my last interview. Yet, one week later, I received an automated email stating I was not getting an offer.
I asked for the reasons, and they replied, "We were looking for more experienced people for this position!"
Well, then why did you waste my time? Really frustrating.
