Overall experience was quite good for a pre-IPO company on a hiring spree in a competitive market.
Applied online and received a call within a few days. The recruiter provided a good overview of expectations for the role and also asked some actual management questions for vetting.
Things went quiet for a month after that, and I reached out to them again. I got an immediate response from the recruiter and was set up with a call with the Hiring Manager within a few days.
The call with the Hiring Manager went very well – honestly, one of the best interview experiences I've had. I was called in for an onsite the following week.
I thought the onsite went quite well as well. It consisted of an 8-member panel of directors, senior managers, senior engineers, and a recruiter. The questions were well-crafted, nothing out of the ordinary, and the interviewers took lots of notes!!
Slack is VERY focused on hiring people who keep things human and empathetic, which explains the high satisfaction ratings from employees. My take on the Engineering Manager role aligned nicely with their expectations.
I got a call from the recruiter two days later stating things went well and that feedback would be sent to the hiring committee. I had to wait two more days to hear back from the Hiring Committee, and an offer was made the following day.
How would you react to a production outage situation?
