The process began with an initial phone interview with the hiring manager, followed by a coding assignment. They indicated the coding assignment would not take more than 2-3 hours.
After submission, I received a general rejection email. I asked the recruiter for feedback, but none was provided.
I had followed all best design practices, including the use of Coordinator, MVVM, and Dependency Injection, and had even written valid test cases. Despite this, I still received a rejection email.
Companies need to understand that candidates are often working full-time jobs, and dedicating 5-6 hours to a coding test represents a significant effort. Rejecting a candidate without giving them an opportunity to explain their work on the assignment feels somewhat harsh.
My advice to candidates: If possible, avoid coding assignments. They are time-consuming and often not worth the effort.
