Process

I received a HackerRank assessment about two weeks after applying. It was an API design question, though it didn't involve using HTTP directly.

A few days later, I had a phone interview. The interview began with a simple question, and then I was asked to build more features onto the initial function. I heard back later that day about scheduling an onsite interview.

About four weeks later, I attended the onsite interview. We had lunch with the other candidates and some recent graduates at Stripe. The onsite consisted of four interviews:

  • Integration Interview: You use an HTTP library to implement some HTTP request testing.
  • Debugging Interview: You are given a GitHub issue on a popular library in the language of your choosing and attempt to debug it.
  • Behavioral Interview: You discuss your previous experience with a manager.
  • Design Interview: You implement a solution to a question using programming design principles (OOD, functional programming, or your chosen approach).

This was definitely one of the best interview processes I've experienced. I felt it truly reflected my actual skills. Although I ended up accepting another offer, this process definitely made me want to return to Stripe in the future.
