HR Interview
The HR interview primarily focused on discussing salary expectations, my motivation for joining the company, and my previous experience.
Direct Manager Interview
The interview with the Direct Manager was largely behavioral, where we explored how I approach challenges and my general work style. The managers don't come with a warm attitude and seemed very much bored.
Technical Assignment
Following the interviews, I was given a technical assignment to complete, which involved developing an image editor. I successfully completed the task within the provided timeframe.
Assignment Debrief
The debrief interview was more challenging than expected. Instead of allowing me to present my solution, the interviewer immediately began questioning my approach. I explained my methodology, but then faced questions that seemed beyond the scope of the assignment, such as the disadvantages of using large context in React, and why Redux might be a better choice. It's important to note that I didn’t use context or Redux in my solution, making these questions feel out of place. Additionally, the interviewer asked me to compare pagination and infinite scroll, which I also felt was outside the assignment's scope. This made it difficult to adequately prepare for the debrief.
During the discussion, the interviewer suggested using the browser to grayscale images on the client side. I pointed out potential issues with this approach, such as compatibility concerns, blur mismatches, and maintaining multiple sources of truth, but it seemed the interviewer held a very rigid view on the matter. Despite these challenges, I successfully answered the system design question and implemented two amendments to the assignment as requested.
Overall Experience
While my overall experience with the interview process was positive, I felt that the assignment debrief could have been more focused. The unexpected and somewhat subjective nature of the questions left me feeling unprepared, and I believe this played a significant role in the final outcome. In my view, the rejection may not have been fully justified based on such trivial and debatable topics.
Disadvantages of using large contexts?
