Process

I only had two interviews before I received an offer.

Interview with a senior design engineer, going over details of my resume and asking a mix of behavioral and technical questions. They dug into the technical aspects of projects I've completed.
Interview with who would turn out to be my manager. This included basic technical questions surrounding material properties and physics problems, with a primary focus on first principles thinking and being detailed in my thought process.

Discussed a prior project I worked on in detail.

I explained why I selected certain materials, the properties of those materials, and what I would do differently following the results of the project.

Pros: Located away from the downtown location, in the suburbs of York Region. Great bosses, supervisors, and co-workers. A bit on the lower end for engineering internship pay, but in my opinion, it was fair for the responsibilities given to me. Possible remote work depending on your team and responsibilities. A small subsidiary company to Tesla, you will be required to reach out to other teams for communication and problem-solving purposes. The projects are an amazing sight to see once they come to life.

Cons: Like most manufacturing, engineering, and assembly companies, some days can be slow due to problems with the supply chain or slow shipments. It is part of your job to still find ways to be productive or reduce bottlenecks of previous/future tasks.

Cons: Organizational structure is hard to decipher sometimes. The daily challenges make it hard to see the big picture. The annual review system is ineffective.

Pros: Decent benefits. Insurance is free, but has to be to be competitive.

Cons: Always in reactive mode. No work-life balance. Allot of money going down the drain. Most new projects don't work, which increases time at work. Very frustrating for us. Promises are not kept. Most people are waiting for stock to vest, then they will bail.

Cons: Always in reactive mode. No work-life balance. Allot of money going down the drain. Most new projects don't work, which increases time at work. Very frustrating for us. Promises are not kept. Most people are waiting for stock to vest, then they will bail.
