Pros

Working with great coworkers, all types of customers from Do-It-Yourselfers to contractors! I learned from our customers.

Cons

HD as a company is probably great. However, the store I was in was very immature. Management, with the exception of one ASM, was very self-focused, immature, unknowing, and very inconsistent. If you are in the "in crowd," you will never be wrote up for anything, no matter what. However, if you aren't in that crowd, they hold you to every little detail and look for ways to write you up.

I was out for 5 days per doctor's orders on bed rest, and per the attendance policy, it is management's discretion if it will be excused or not. Even with a note from the ER and my doctor, and my shifts being covered, they counted each day as an occurrence.

Advice to Management

My advice would be to treat everyone as equals! No matter what level you are within the company, from the CEO all the way down to a part-time associate, it should be the same. I also recommend that when you are in a management position, you lead by example!
