I landed on a great team to work with. They used up-to-date tech.
I learned a lot while there. I got in at a high hourly rate due to employee shortages (they have since dropped hourly pay about $25/hr, taking advantage of all the big layoffs in tech).
Management are tyrants, particularly at the director level. They laid off 20 contractors, including me, with a 3-day notice, which they actually didn't plan on giving anyone. It was really an email error that anyone found out about the layoffs at all. I found out later they knew the layoffs were coming a month in advance. They offer low salaries for full-time employees. My director was once heard at a social mixer describing contractors as "situationally contingent staff" and laughing at how disposable they are.
Treat your contractors like humans.
I got the job description from the recruiter. I was scheduled for a phone interview with the program manager. The interview was a mix of behavioral questions and some basic Java core questions. It seems like they are looking for someone who has exper
I interviewed through a recruiter. It was a 1-hour technical video call. The interviewers were nice and cooperative. The interview process was: first 30 minutes were on resume and previous experience, and then a coding challenge.
It was a 1.5-hour interview where we discussed background and skills. We worked on coding exercises for 1 hour. There were three interviewers on the call, and the questions were handled by one of the engineers.
