Web Engineering Intern Interview Experience - West Hollywood, California

Positive ExperienceGot Offer

Process

Application -> Online Assessment (OA) -> Phone Interview -> Technical Final Round -> Offer

The OA was on CodeSignal. The phone interview was primarily a vibe check/behavioral interview to see if the recruiter liked you.

The technical final round did not consist of any live coding, as Tinder doesn't do live coding interviews for interns anymore. For full-time positions, you still get a live coding interview.

The technical interview consisted of my engineering manager, with whom I would be working, asking me React questions (e.g., how useEffect is used) as well as hypothetical questions pertaining to web development (e.g., how to deal with the web app being offline while messaging someone on Tinder, using service workers).

They basically scheduled my final round interview in the same call as the phone interview.

To get my offer, I waited about a week before they extended it.

Questions

What is useEffect?

What would you display to the user if the web app went down in the middle of your message?

What would you do in the backend to retrieve that message?

How to center a div (different ways of doing it)?

What change would you make to the current Tinder web app?

What are your long-term goals after you graduate?

(More behavioral questions than technical).
