Process

The HR team at Twilio seemed very professional and business-focused. From an interview-candidate perspective, everything appeared streamlined. I was interviewed over two rounds by phone, including live coding with Stypi, and HR shared the Stypi link in an earlier email. After the two phone rounds, I was invited for an in-person interview at their San Francisco HQ. HR provided a travel agent's number to book my tickets and accommodation, and it was all taken care of. I didn't have to deal with travel itineraries, hotels, or payments/reimbursements at all. I flew to SF and back on the same day, though.

In total, I met five people onsite, including Twilio's young CTO. Later, I had another telephonic conversation with the hiring manager.

The questions posed by each of the five members were eclectic, generic, and diverse. They were very generic problems with complex solutions. It was fun solving a real-world problem in an interview room, although by the end of the fourth round, I was almost drained and could hardly apply my thoughts anymore. It was very useful that I got a glimpse of the problems and domain I would be working on if I joined them.

Overall, the interview process was streamlined, no-nonsense, and focused on the candidate's aptitude and technical experience, rather than solely on past experience as many others do.

Questions

I was asked how to solve a problem that seemed very obvious.

But it was a problem that the entire social media is dealing with right now.

I wasn't aware of that fact.

Pretty interesting stuff.
