Pros: Working at Uber has been a rewarding experience, both technically and professionally. The engineering culture emphasizes scalable solutions, clean code, and thoughtful design, especially when building systems that serve millions of users in real-time. I had the opportunity to work on core platform APIs and backend services that power Uber’s Control Panel and pricing infrastructure. The scope of responsibility is wide, and engineers are trusted with meaningful ownership from design to deployment. Uber encourages innovation and provides great tools and support for CI/CD, monitoring, and testing. The work is challenging, which keeps you sharp, and collaboration across teams (product, SRE, data science) is strong. Managers are approachable and generally good at unblocking issues and aligning teams. That said, the pace can be intense at times, and you need to be proactive about balancing priorities. But if you're someone who enjoys building at scale and solving real-world problems, Uber offers an environment where your work truly makes an impact.

Cons: While working at Uber has been a rewarding and high-impact experience, it does come with a few challenges. The fast-paced environment can sometimes lead to high pressure and long hours, especially when working on services with wide user reach. Due to the scale of the system, onboarding can be quite complex, and it takes time to become fully productive. Collaboration across teams is essential, but cross-functional dependencies can occasionally slow progress or create misalignment. Additionally, priorities can shift quickly based on evolving business goals, and experiences can vary depending on the team’s structure and leadership. That said, for those who thrive in dynamic environments and enjoy solving large-scale engineering problems, Uber offers a solid platform for growth.

Pros: * Good pay and benefits * Talented engineers in every team * Mostly collaborative culture * Constant exposure to large-scale distributed systems and their software problems

Cons: Company is now focused on efficiency and cost-saving instead of innovation. Slow performance-review and planning cycles. Engineers focused on promo-driven development. Management focused on KPIs and saving face. Not the same company that contributed to the Golang open-source ecosystem. Offshoring questions long-term job security.

Pros: Great pace of work. Awesome coworkers. Mid-tier pay.

Cons: Management needs to be more tenured; they are pretty underexperienced.
