Senior Software Engineer Interview Experience - Tel Aviv, Israel

Negative ExperienceNo Offer

Process

The interview process included a phone conversation with the recruiter, one remote interview, and one onsite interview.

Both interviews felt unprofessional.

During the remote interview, the interviewers ignored my answers and thought process, only showing interest in the final answer.

The onsite interview was humiliating. The interviewer was 5-10 minutes late. He asked me a technical question and requested that I write the code on the board. Before I could even answer, he stated he had something else to do and vanished for several minutes. He left me in the interview room for over an hour, until I eventually left the site.

Needless to say, the recruiter insisted that this interview be conducted onsite rather than remotely.

The recruiter apologized, but I never heard from them again.

I have encountered many interview processes in my career, but this was the worst-managed one.

Questions

Implement a lock, a reentrant lock, and design a port manager. The required interface consists of the following API calls:

  • add_port(list_of_possible_ports)
  • release_port(port)

Implement a storage solution with two disks and one server. The server might fail but will restart immediately. Disks might fail and never recover (a single error in a disk operation will only be followed by errors in that disk).

Design code that allows recovery from a single disk error, with the following requirements:

  • Read consistency (two consecutive reads should return the same value if no write operation occurred between them).
  • The read and write operations should be atomic.

Interfaces:

Public: int write(void* buf, size_t offset) // block of 3K, alignment of 4K int read(void* buf, size_t offset) // block of 3K, alignment of 4K

Private: int write_drive(int drive, void* buf, size_t offset) // block of 4K, alignment of 4K int read_drive(int drive, void* buf, size_t offset) // block of 4K, alignment of 4K
