Pros
  • Good benefits and salary if you manage to negotiate a good package going in.
  • Laid-back culture, if you like slow-paced environments.
Cons
  • Very limited opportunities to grow internally.
  • Too many restructuring and layoffs (twice a year and sometimes more).
  • The leadership team seems clueless and lacks vision, strategy, and clear direction.
  • Stock options are offered only to directors (and sometimes managers).
  • Some executives are jerks and bluntly threaten to cut heads on conference calls and meetings.
  • Doesn't foster an open-door policy where you can reach out and talk to directors and executives.
  • There are always rumors going around about downsizing, and those rumors end up being true most of the time.

Bad management decisions and tough competition are driving Verizon Enterprise Services into the ground.

Advice to Management
  • Hire managers who know how to do things, not just those good at approving time sheets and expense reports.
  • Change starts at the top. It's ineffective to lay off the engineers and keep the same people who are managing the organization in place.
