HR called to inform me that my profile had been shortlisted and sent an MS Teams video meeting invite. On the scheduled date and time, the HR representative was not aware that my interview was supposed to happen. I had to remind them, and after waiting for about 10-15 minutes, the panelist joined.

The panelist asked about my background and apologized for joining late – the least I could expect. I shared my past professional experience and what I was looking for. However, the panelist, who had also shortlisted my resume, told me that my profile didn't fit well for the role I applied for. Is this a joke?

The Job Description was absolutely relevant to my profile. The only positive aspect was that the panelist provided details about the role, which sounded like Production Support work and not much R&D related, which was totally not what I was looking for. Furthermore, the panelist was not knowledgeable enough to understand what kind of skillset to consider for a Data Engineer role.

My suggestion is to screen candidates properly before inviting them for an interview. We build hopes when given a chance and also dedicate our time to preparing for and attending the interview.
