There was a lot of wait time, with hours spent between different interview rounds.
The interview started with the Hiring Manager and continued through HR rounds. If they don't find you suitable, they will reject you in the first round itself.
The interview was a combination of both technical and leadership/management skills, with more emphasis on whether the Manager had fired anyone on the team.
A few questions were on performance appraisals and conflict management.
All the interviewers were quite polite.
After all my technical rounds, I finally met with HR. She tried to understand my salary structure and the hike I wanted. She also gave me a brief idea about the salary structure at VISA and how fast I could join if an offer was given. Finally, she mentioned they were assessing a few more candidates and would get back to me within a week, as it would take some time to finalize things. The conversation ended on a positive note.
I waited for two weeks with no response. Finally, I reached out out of curiosity and was surprised to get an answer that my skill sets did not match their requirements.
Few questions for all the interviewers and HR:
How did they call me for the interview when my skills were not matching? Their screening process needs to be strengthened.
How did I pass through multiple technical rounds? Were the interviewers unable to ascertain during my interview that my profile did not match the requirement?
Finally, although it was not an offer discussion, how did HR try to understand the salary structure, explain VISA's salary structure, and ask when I could join in case an offer was given? I have never encountered HR asking these questions to a candidate whose skills do not match the requirements in my entire professional career.
