Visa Singapore - Great place if you are a good team

Staff Software Engineer
Current Employee

4.0
Pros
  • Best perks in the industry
  • Very supportive team and management
  • Chance to work with a new technology stack
  • Great team culture (depends on the team)
Cons

Since a lot of old employees are there, they try to create dependency upon themselves and very seldom share their knowledge.

Teams have grown 5-8 folds in the last 3 years, so growth opportunities have become limited. They have a mentality of promoting people by numbers (max 3 per team, etc.) instead of looking if the people in question are already performing at the next level at work.

Very slow to accept change.

Business-driven, not technology-driven.

Advice to Management
  • If many people are performing at the next level of their current position, they deserve to be in the next position. If you keep finding the smallest mistakes (which will always be there), they will not last long.

  • Make this promotion policy consistent across Visa. In some teams, people with more than 10 years of experience are considered for staff positions, while in some teams, even 5-6 years of experience qualifies. People will change teams, then, or maybe look outside.
