Pros

Decent enough pay, good benefits.

Cons

Non-technical managers are everywhere at Visa, and many of them make engineers work on initiatives (that do little to improve the engineering culture) that fall outside their actual job scope. Meetings are scheduled mindlessly, and if any stakeholders are based in the US, good luck managing your time. Instead of removing blockers, these managers often create additional obstacles that slow developers down.

AI effectiveness is measured by questionable metrics, such as “lines of code committed by AI” or “number of commits made by AI,” with a strong push to justify the sunk costs of adopting AI.

Juniors are assigned individual GenAI projects without proper guidance, such as shadowing, pair programming, or mentorship. Without these supports, how can they be expected to avoid common software engineering pitfalls and adopt proper development practices?

Code reviews and CI/CD practices are virtually non-existent. Deployments are still done manually by uploading artifacts directly to the server.
