Process

I secured an interview through a referral and had to fly to Bangalore for it. The same day, I completed two technical rounds and one managerial round. Two days later, I was called back for an additional technical round.

A week after that, HR contacted me via phone to inform me of my selection. I received my offer letter ten days later.

Questions

Technical Round 1

This round was mainly focused on tools and technologies listed on the resume.

  1. Explain your automation framework.
  2. What are POM and Page Factory?
  3. How do you connect to a database using JDBC? Write the full code.
  4. A scenario was given, and I was asked to write code demonstrating how I would automate it. It involved iterating over the columns of a result set.
  5. Explain the Maven lifecycle.
  6. TestNG related questions: annotation hierarchy, testNG.xml.
  7. How do you mention dependencies in pom.xml?
  8. Given a linked list, find the middle node. I provided a solution and was then asked for a second approach.
  9. Given a string, swap the nth index with the (l-n-1)th index, where 'l' is the length of the string. You had to write working code.

Technical Round 2

  1. I was given different scenarios for method overriding and asked for the output. There was a parent class named Parent and a child class named Child which extended Parent. Which method would be called in the following scenarios, or would there be any compile-time/runtime errors (and what type of error, if any)?
    • Child c = new Child();
    • Parent p = new Parent();
    • Child c = new Parent();
    • Parent p = new Child();
  2. Explain the internal working of a HashMap. How do the get() and put() methods work internally? What happens if a null value is added? You had to explain the hashCode() and equals() methods in detail.
  3. What is the difference between checked and unchecked exceptions? Draw the exception hierarchy.
  4. There is a company logo on the company's website. How would you validate that the logo is correct using Selenium?

Technical Round 3

This round was mainly focused on automation.

  1. What TestNG annotations have you used in your project?
  2. If you want to test a login functionality with 100 different login credentials, how would you achieve that using TestNG?
  3. What plugins have you used in Jenkins for your Maven project?
  4. What is the build command used in your project?
  5. What are listeners? Which listener are you using? How do you create a listener class?
  6. What is JavaScriptExecutor? What UI issues can you face during cross-browser testing?
  7. Why do we use the Page Object Model?
  8. How are you interacting with Excel data?
  9. Write the script for drag and drop. What is the design pattern of the Actions class?
  10. What is a singleton class? Have you used it in your project? I explained about the logger class, which is a singleton.
  11. Write functional and non-functional test cases for an email client, considering the system as a whole.
  12. Write working code to find the count of each digit in an integer. I provided a solution using a HashMap and was asked for another solution. I then provided another solution using a count array.
