Senior PHP Developer Interview Experience - Berlin, Germany
Process
They contacted me through LinkedIn, then arranged an initial interview with general questions about my career and some general technical questions. After a week, they contacted me again and scheduled another interview for 60 minutes. This included general questions about my career and two live code challenges.
- The first was to read code and write the output.
- The second was to write a simple PHP script for detecting non-duplicated numbers in an array.
Unfortunately, I had a problem suddenly with the internet connection. After I reconnected, I was not able to think clearly to solve this very easy task, and I was able to solve it after the interview ended. Of course, after two days, I received a rejection email.
Questions
Where do we put the business logic in the MVC Design Pattern?
Given an array of numbers [1, 3, 3, 5, 9, 4, 1, 10, 9, 7, 2, 7], write a PHP function that will print numbers that are not duplicated in the array. [5, 4, 10, 2]

- 4.0Good Team, Changing PaceSenior Software Engineer • Current EmployeeBerlin, GermanySeptember 24, 2025Pros: Good team, challenging projects, good payment.Cons: Not so much; everything is changing.
- 4.0Pros and Cons. I was happy to leave when I didSoftware Developer • Former EmployeeBerlin, GermanyDecember 19, 2022Pros: They really take management and experience seriously. I had one of the best line managers I ever had here; it was clear he was very qualified and experienced at managing people.Cons: I felt a bit like a code monkey and consequently had low job satisfaction and was under-utilized. The company works in silos, so it's hard to have any autonomy, and consequently, anything that involved more than just your silo is very slow. Code is everything, roll-your-own. Presumably, so developers can reach key objectives in order to get promotions. Therefore, every library is Wayfair's own flavor. A lot of the senior developers and architects don't have enough experience, so perhaps not the best decision-making process, and it could be better. Code is very old and outdated. They joined the outsource to India bandwagon, so I guess they don't value experience that much.
