Process

I don't think I applied to Wayfair on their website, but I received a call from a recruiter on Hired.

Round 1: Phone Screening This round felt positive. The recruiter was very friendly and patient in answering all my questions, and they moved me on to the next steps.

Round 2: Technical Questions There were many SQL questions and a problem involving hash maps. I completed it on time, and the interviewer was satisfied. They asked me some follow-up questions about my approach.

The next day, I received a call from the recruiter inviting me for an onsite interview at the Boston office.

Round 3: Onsite Interviews (All-Day Process) This was an all-day interview process with approximately four one-hour rounds.

The first round went very well. The interviewer seemed impressed by my interest in the company.

The second round is where things started to go poorly. It felt like the interviewer was simply asking me to do random tasks to pass the time, knowing I had no experience in those areas.

The third round felt like a challenge where the interviewer was very serious, seemingly waiting for me to design a system that wouldn't scale well. I was quite tense given their demeanor.

The final round involved an easy problem, but the environment prevented me from performing at my best. One of the interviewers seemed to make light of various aspects and particularly appeared to enjoy critiquing my SQL design, which was a disheartening experience.

Overall, it was a good experience, even though I was not selected. I don't believe their bar is as high as other tech companies. Someone with decent Software Engineer and coding experience could likely crack this interview without much difficulty.
