Pros: The company strikes a good balance between being serious professionals who are there to get a job done, and having values and policies in place to support good work-life balance. Most of the people there are good at what they do.

Cons: Leadership from the VP level up is prone to sudden moves, like department reorganizations, which don't seem to be motivated by any consistent theme. This happened around once per year during my 5 years working there and was very disruptive. The managers have a lot of power within their team, which makes for a highly variable experience for the people working at Wayfair. Your relationship with your manager and their competence at their job will have a huge impact on your career growth and happiness. Like in many tech companies, a small group of activist-minded employees have a disproportionate impact on all the other workers.

Pros: - Friendly, nurturing culture. - Fun environment for 20/30-somethings. - People who perform well often get promoted.

Cons: Messy, buggy codebase. Company is stingy about investing in new technology/equipment. Culture of getting things done quickly, even if they are partially broken. Becoming increasingly corporate, with BS meetings and superficial productivity metrics that encourage quantity over quality. Pay is below market average. Work-life balance is not always great for engineers, depending on the team. Sometimes engineers have to work late into the night or be on-call during weekends. Supposedly, transparency is a core value of the company, but many important decisions are made behind closed doors. Employees and managers vary greatly with respect to engineering ability and communication skills. Not an exciting company to work for in terms of its mission (selling furniture and beating out local Mom & Pop furniture stores).

Pros: high pay so long as you don't get laid off

Cons: They do layoffs like a game of musical chairs.
