Software Quality Operations Associate • Former Employee
Pros: - Neat technology all around.
- Awesome building and atmosphere.
- Opportunity to work with brilliant engineers.
- Delicious food provided thrice daily.
- Access to other Alphabet cafes and facilities.
- Good work/life balance.
- Direct management was good.
- Compensation was decent.
- No dress code.
- Casual vibe feels welcoming.
- No outwardly obvious discrimination.
Cons: - Work becomes repetitive and unchallenging.
- Few opportunities; a nonexistent corporate ladder.
- Significantly better compensation from direct competitors affects the retention of indispensable full-timers in the department.
- Lack of professionalism among some younger colleagues makes the work culture feel cringe and reflects badly on the department as a whole (e.g., coworkers hovering nearby your desk, chatting noisily during work hours, forming cliques, and overall acting like schoolchildren).
- Unnecessary increase in the size of middle management.
- Ballooning of department size makes it difficult to get noticed, even with a specialized role.
- TVC churn is highly exploitative; upper management is extremely resistant to increasing FTE quotas.
- Technical skills developed are not applicable outside of this industry.
- Upper management took away scooters that were useful for traversing the site.
