Software Engineer Interview Experience - Sunnyvale, California

Process

I had a phone screen followed by an on-site interview. The on-site consisted of 5 rounds, focusing on algorithms, trees, and linked list questions. There were also design questions on real-world problems, such as shopping site design. They required code written in Java and delved deeply into multithreading, design patterns, and other Java internals. Some sorting and searching code was also requested. The interviewers were very polite and helped me through the answers; a few even expressed interest in seeing me hired. However, I was ultimately rejected. The HR department was very poor at communicating, taking a long time to respond. I had to email them multiple times for updates. If a decision isn't communicated within two weeks, it's usually a rejection. They never communicate if you are not selected.
