Pros

Market-level (or above, for some roles) compensation.

Opportunity to learn full-stack platform development for engineers.

A great place for product managers to learn the advertising technology ecosystem.

Work/life balance is easy to reach in most teams.

The Sunnyvale campus offers great amenities.

Cons

Career growth opportunities are very limited.

Almost zero guidance from senior management on vision or execution.

Lack of large org leadership experience in some managers (most coming from acquired startups with limited process and/or people leadership experience).

General lack of ownership or unwillingness to take initiative at even senior management level (job is just a job attitude).

No established org culture (still an unfinished jigsaw puzzle with disparate pieces of acquired start-ups).

Weak HR support (impacting managers more often than individual contributors).

Heavy consolidation, minimal innovation.

Gradually losing its competitive edge (Amazon showing its huge presence, behind FB and Google).

Advice to Management

So much time has been invested in gluing together the acquired start-ups and consolidating them that the competition has already opened up their lead. Any advice to senior management at this point would be too little, too late.

Oath is a big jigsaw puzzle with pieces that came from acquired companies, therefore it has been very tough to create marching hymns everyone can gather around, let alone setting a unified, org-defining culture.

TA had charisma, drive, and marketing genius, but lacked the same level of excellence in operational leadership. The leadership team he relied on were not execution masters either.

Without a drastic strategic change at the senior level, the company will continue yielding so-so growth at best.
