Pros
  • People are friendly.
  • Salary and stocks are great if you work remotely in a location that has a lower cost of living.
  • Remote first.
Cons

They do silent layoffs that are not upfront or honest at all, sacrificing their employees' mental health to avoid disclosing to the world that they are actually doing layoffs.

To do the silent layoff, they will put you on a "coaching plan," which is really just a PIP where it doesn’t matter if you do everything that they asked and more. They will find reasons and skew things to create a paper trail on why you will be being let go, setting employees up for failure and severe hits to mental health where no matter what you do, you are never good enough.

Long-time Yelp managers can be great, but external hire managers, in my experience, were terrible.

Advice to Management
  • longer shadowing periods for externally hired managers
  • be honest with employees if you are looking to downsize
  • do proper exit interviews where negative feedback is being reported and heard by more than just the person receiving negative feedback
