Work is not hard or challenging (could be a con).
The office is nice with standard amenities for a tech company. Equipment they provide is very good. Most of the non-technical people are very pleasant to work with. IT Support is fast and reliable for a company this size.
Almost everyone in engineering leadership is toxic.
Delivering features will always take priority over fixing tech debt.
Example: As someone in technical management, I was told to tell the team NOT to write tests and just push code through to get features delivered faster.
I’ve seen code they’ve contributed; it’s worse than many junior devs I’ve worked with in my career.
Every time I’ve taken PTO, I’d be criticized for letting my team fail X goal.
Not a total surprise, but every single person who has defied leadership in one way or another has been a part of one of the (so far) 3 layoffs (in all departments).
People on H1B’s are definitely treated harshly compared to others.
Not necessarily a race or discrimination thing, but a lot of them live/work in fear for their jobs, and it seems like it’s instilled by management.
They’re consistently having power trips and don’t care about who they manage.
It’s the worst I’ve seen, and I’ve been in the industry for 14 years.
For execs, the engineering culture needs to be changed, and a lot of people in engineering management need to be removed. I can count the number of respectable engineering managers, directors, and principal software engineer roles on one hand, maybe two. When hiring to replace those roles, aim for people who truly have empathy and competency.
The interview process was suspiciously way too easy for me. It's no wonder there have been so many bad hires.
Pay is honestly pretty stingy. I was told I was in the upper band of my pay grade, and I still considered it low. Low pay does not attract good talent.
First, a home test, then I was invited to an onsite test. It has been almost a month since the onsite test I did, and I haven't received an answer. This is illegal and disrespectful. Although COVID-19 was a concern, they picked the date for the ons
I've never experienced such bad attitude to a candidate. I had a call from an HR person. The very first question sounded, "So, do you know what we are doing?" Later in the call, "What is your salary?" -- "..." -- "Not the highest I've seen... Obvious
I was asked a LeetCode question about string manipulation. A '$' means a number, '+' means a letter, and '*' means that the next three letters should be identical. That was the homework task.
