Job Description
Stainless is seeking a Product Engineer to join its Web Apps team and shape the future of their self-serve product. As an early member, you will play a key role in developing the SDK Studio and public API, taking ownership of feature development from design to implementation. This includes crafting design documents, writing UI and backend code, and building LLM-powered tools to simplify the user experience with OpenAPI. You will also design and build public APIs that underlie the Stainless platform and shape the direction of their nascent API Framework.
The role involves engaging with developers from startups to enterprises to understand their needs, contributing to documentation, and helping build a great website. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of building modern web applications, excellent product sensibility, and a passion for developer experience. The position offers a salary range of $210K - $300K, equity, and visa sponsorship (TN or E-3). The company has a hybrid work policy requiring 3-4 days in-person in either NYC or SF, with a preference for NYC. Responsibilities
- Ship large improvements to Stainless’s SDK Studio with a focus on empowering self-serve users
- Build LLM-powered tools to simplify users’ path for going from OpenAPI spec to production-ready SDK
- Design + build public APIs that underly the Stainless platform
- Shape the direction of Stainless’s nascent API Framework
- Talk with developers at small startups, growth-stage companies, and enterprises to understand their needs
- Write great docs, help build a great website, do what needs done
Requirements
- Ability to build anything imaginable, with great design and sound architecture
- Demonstrable track record of building modern web applications (TypeScript, React, etc)
- Excellent product sensibility
- True passion for developer experience and empathy for developers from all backgrounds
- Familiarity with OpenAPI and the broader API tooling ecosystem
- Experience and/or interest in writing blogs, speaking at conferences and engaging with developer communities
- Experience designing and stewarding APIs at scale, whether internal or external
- Expertise with TypeScript
- Broad polyglot interest/experience – comfort working across multiple programming languages
- Started something before: a business, a club, a nonprofit, a student org; anything that shows you’re a builder at heart
- 4+ years of experience
- full-stack engineering (L4 senior level preferred)
- High-bar companies (FAANG, unicorns, or startups featured by TechCrunch/funded by top-tier VCs like a16z, Sequoia, Greylock)
