What does being proactive look like in practice?

I've heard this advice a lot, and I would like to get more clarity on what that concretely means. In particular, what does a junior engineer being proactive look like? Can someone provide examples?

- Notice a pattern and make the change throughout the team's code rather than just the specific example you were expected to fix.
- Learn something interesting/detect a common failure mode, then document so other people can benefit, or leave that feedback on code reviews.
