Hi everyone,
I'm a senior software engineer in Brazil, and I'm interested in exploring fully remote opportunities with FAANG companies.
Does anyone have experience or insights into whether these companies hire engineers from Brazil for fully remote roles? What are the main challenges or requirements? Where can I find such job postings? Do I need a referrer? Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
Only Microsoft as far as I know. Amazon is full RTO, Google is 3-day a week at the office. Meta and Netflix are not hiring SWEs in Brazil as of right now. Adjacent companies with similar pay are mostly hybrid, but I was at one that became full RTO recently (one of the reasons I left).
Getting hired directly by a FAANG company is difficult but possible. However, you really need an unfair advantage like a strong referral or past FAANG experience.
In the absence of that, there are several companies that allow Brazilian (and LATAM) engineers to work for American tech companies:
I have passing familiarity with all 3 companies above (the first two were in StartX, and I talked to someone who works at the 3rd one). Getting hired in one of these could be a great stepping stone to direct employment.
I was recently talking with a Brazilian engineer who just got offers from Google and DoorDash, so it's definitely possible. Most FAANG companies allow you to search by location on their job boards - Here's an example for Google: https://www.google.com/about/careers/applications/jobs/results/?jid=197205001&location=Sao%20Paulo,Brazil
Another thing I recommend doing is networking with other engineers in Brazil (inside or outside of FAANG, doesn't matter) to learn more. Unfortunately we don't support a location filter in either Taro Networking or the Taro Job Board yet, but you could go to job searcher events and ask if anyone else is from Brazil. Here's a good upcoming one: https://www.jointaro.com/event/jobsearchers-coffee-chat-e2ce5/
I recommend these courses as well:
I just saw this question, so adding my thoughts.
As others said, most FAANG companies do not have many openings in Brazil, especially for remote positions.
Instead, here are good companies that hire remote-first in Brazil, with good total comp:
And, for bigger companies:
I agree with Rahul that the best bet is probably joining a developer marketplace, building relationships, and trying to get hired directly later.
Other ones to look for, besides the ones listed: G2i, X-Team.
