Process

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks.

I applied online. A few weeks later, I got an email from the recruiter regarding my background and why I'm interested in joining Agility (typical phone screening).

After that, I got interviewed by the hiring manager to discuss again my background with emphasis on what kind of contributions I made over the years, what kind of software I can use, how to debug the issues, etc.

After that I had a final onsite interview which consists of:

30 min presentation
3 45-minute sessions for technical interviews, including coding interviews
Concluded by the behavioral interview with the hiring manager

Overall, I enjoyed the whole interview process since everyone had a similar background and we talked about a lot of exciting ideas related to this role.

A few days later, I got the offer letter! I really appreciate the efforts by Agility during the process. I believe that if you are interested in humanoid robotics, this is the right place to work on very exciting projects to make an impact on the world.

Cool robots can't make up for a mediocre workplace

Pros: You get to work on and around cool robots. The work is interesting and stimulating.

Cons: Leadership speaks with multiple POVs, and moves in lockstep. This creates frequent confusion when someone in leadership agrees to investigate an issue or take feedback and then never does it. Internal politics are everywhere. It feels like a much larger company than it is due to the speed of changes.

Cool robots can't make up for a mediocre workplace

Pros: Agility Robotics is already one of the leaders in humanoid and general purpose robotics, and they have great ties to the research in these fields. Unlike lots of other robotics and AI companies, they don't rely on flashy marketing and instead let the robots' capabilities speak for themselves. Working for Agility is like being part of a growing family with a unified vision to change the economy of labor.

Cons: Unfortunately, Agility Robotics isn't located in a big city - Portland is about an hour and a half away as is Eugene. That being said, there are plenty of outdoorsy activities in and around the Willamette Valley area and the employees regularly engage in these together.
