Engineering Lead Interview Experience

Process

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks.

Recruiter, live coding, system design, behavioural, final round with CTO. Failed at the final round. CTO said I'm not a good fit, while all 3 previous interviewers said yes.

The funny thing about the CTO round is that he asked mostly the same questions as the behavioural round with the senior director, and somehow concluded I'm not a good fit. He even asked very low-level tech questions like how you model the database.

This is the second time I interviewed with Airwallex, and both times I have had a negative experience overall. I feel it's a complete waste of time. The CTO makes the final say; basically, whatever you performed in the previous 3 rounds is irrelevant. If the CTO is the final chokehold, they should move him to the front so he could drop the candidates that he doesn't like earlier.

Questions

System design: add feature to download some external files

Coding: build an account balance that maintains a single number when money is moving in and out.

Behavioural: basic project stuff

CTO: mostly the same as behavioural round
