HR called me for the interview. She was very nice and quite supportive.

Interview Experience:

Karat Round

• 20-25 minutes of 5 system design questions
• 1 coding question of easy level

Even though the round was labeled easy level, the expectation for explaining the system design was quite high, and solving the coding question in the limited time was challenging. I had to take a redo to get through; the first round of Karat was a reject.

Round 1 - Coding

Interviewer asked me to design and code a snake game. I asked to get the correct boundary conditions. I coded and struggled with one part of the coding on how to end the game. He had a follow-up question in mind. What I observed is they don't care much about explanations if you solve the problem and the test cases are working fine.

Round 2 - Coding

Interviewer gave a very vague explanation of the question, so I had to ask questions to get clarity. She seemed uninterested in listening to my explanations. It was a voting-based question on candidates, involving two-dimensional sorting problems. The interviewer was very vague. Once I solved it, she gave a follow-up question, for which I provided a solution. She wanted an optimized solution, which I gave.

Verdict: Don't put too much energy into explaining to them. Just ask the right questions and execute test cases. Solve the follow-up question to be on the safer side.
