Senior Software Engineer Interview Experience - Sydney, Australia
Process
The interview process was divided into 5 parts:
- 3 technical: browser coding, JavaScript interview, and system design
- 2 non-technical: management and values interview
The initial questions were relatively easy for any software engineer working with frontend technologies. However, they scaled up the difficulty twice, expecting a P4 (senior software engineer) to at least solve the first level of scaling.
The management and values interviews consisted of general "tell me about a time when..." questions. These aimed to gauge involvement in different processes. It's unfortunate if you haven't experienced serious conflicts, as this limits your ability to provide real examples of your involvement.
Overall, the interview process was good. However, the role has high expectations, even when they state that not all requirements need to be met.
Questions
Browser Coding - Create a file directory structure using some JSON data provided.
Javascript Interview - Make an async promise call from a function and display data in paginated format. The interviewer then kept scaling up the question.
