Financial Applications Developer Interview Experience - New York, New York

Process

First, there was an online programming aptitude test, similar to the GRE.

After that, a phone interview.

Then, I was invited to a face-to-face interview. It was quite short, lasting approximately 2+ hours.

First, two junior engineers asked some basic questions.

Next, a senior manager joined and asked more HR-type questions, such as: "Why do you want to work here?"

"What do you expect from this position?"

"How do you handle pressure?"

Perhaps they realized this was my "backup" position, as my true goal is quantitative finance.

It was an OK interview. These individuals did not seem particularly intelligent. One could answer these questions with some previous experience, and they did not require extensive "brainpower" – a far cry from a quant-type interview.

These types of positions would be suitable for recent CS graduates looking to add experience to their resumes.

Notably, none of the interviewers could provide a clear career path within the company. It seems the other reviews might be accurate: one reaches a glass ceiling quite early on. Working with their proprietary software could be detrimental to career development beyond a certain point.
