Near-retirees withhold knowledge to secure a job as a contractor post-retirement.

Minimal hands-on technical work.

Most plane equipment is outsourced.

Outdated tools.

No system synergy due to multiple supplier-built components.

Advice to Management

Base retention on merit, not tenure (a probation period is fine).

Bring some equipment development in-house.

Raise team lead pay but test competency regularly.

Avoid overhiring followed by layoffs.

Stop pushing work-sharing with overseas teams. Try to help the employees and not make it more complicated.
