It's difficult to get your voice heard. Mid-level management is very hierarchical, with lots of ego. Many managers have no idea what you are doing. Recognition can be impossible, and there are lots of insecure egos that may try to minimize what you do.
Do not hire non-technical managers to try to manage teams doing things they will never understand.
Get rid of a layer of management, especially the suffocating, ego-driven kind of management.
