Engineering Interview Experience - Irvine, California

Process

I was contacted by a headhunter, who found my resume on an online portal (I'm not sure which one). He sent my resume to the hiring manager, who liked it and scheduled a phone interview. Questions were asked about my resume, job experience, PERL (mostly data structures), UNIX, and experience with design management tools. It was an IT position, along with CAD and VLSI design experience, and design sync server experience.

Then I went in for an onsite interview, which was scheduled for one day. However, the panel liked my resume for another CAD position, so they asked me to stay for an additional day for that interview.

Panel interviews for two consecutive days were extremely exhaustive, but overall, they went well.

I had six rounds on Day 1. Each interviewer asked a common question: "How would you set up a CAD project using a design sync server in a multi-site environment?" I assume they have this issue and need someone to work on it.

Other questions included:

  • Simulation related: Spectre, Spice, Ultrasim
  • Customer related: How would you approach a situation where someone states their design isn't working without providing more information?
  • Parasitic extraction: How does the Assura engine work?
  • Perl, TCL scripting: What have you done with them?
  • Draw the cross-sectional view of a CMOS.

There were also detailed questions from my resume.
