I like the company a lot, so I've been watching job listings. I found something I fit, and they reached out a bit later.

Quick phone screen. Nothing crazy. It's a phone screen; if you are reading this, you know what this looks like.

Code Signal test. Really not hard. You need a ~700 to pass the first two questions. The third question is a bit harder and will eat time; the fourth requires optimization. The general consensus is 1-2-4-3. I had answers for all of them, but the last two didn't pass all test cases.
Ok. Power Day. You have 4 interviews. It's worth studying for this. You'll get a coding test, an arch/design test, a behavioral interview, and a case study.
- Coding Test: Code Signal. The questions are online if you look, but make sure you are optimizing. Talk through why you are answering the question. Pretty easy.
- Design: Again, found the question online (think: bank). Think through why you do things and the tertiary effects. It helps to know AWS well.
- Behavioral: 3 standard 'tell me about a time when' questions. You can find this online. I just wrote down all my projects and categorized them based on keywords so I could pull them up. This one is a gimme.
- Case: This one is downplayed a lot. I thought it was much harder. It requires basic math, which really threw me off. Take notes. Take notes. Take notes. Off-handed statements from the first few minutes are important later on. Think critically, and you'll be fine, but approach it as a case study and be aware that there is math in this one (6th grade). You'll be fine.

Pros: Pay is pretty good for the area, and benefits are good. Highly dependent on what line of business you work in, but some can be okay with good people. Others, like Financial Services (FS), are terrible. Avoid at all costs.
Work-life balance can be pretty good but depends on your manager. I've had some good and some really bad.
Cons: - Depends on the manager, but a lot of micromanaging.
- If you have issues with a co-worker or manager and talk to HR, they likely won't do anything.
- Twice per year review process with forced below-strong distribution (as high as 20%), resulting in a performance plan which usually results in being let go.
- The review process focuses too much on extra-curricular activities and not actually software engineering work; it's more about who you know.
- Very difficult to get promoted after the Lead (manager) level.
- Forced return to office even when the team is not in the same location.
- Meeting-heavy culture with too many town halls, all-hands, etc.
- A lot of strong personalities who interrupt and talk over others.
- Many Capital One-specific abstractions over open-source tools, so you don't actually get experience working with industry-standard tools.
- Many re-orgs, so you may end up with a new manager often.
- Very unorganized.
- Leadership and product take their time making decisions and go back and forth between decisions, but expect developers to be done yesterday.

Pros: If you land on a good team, I think it can be a great job. It's easy to move around inside of a company.
Cons: Horrible performance management. The calibration approach is not fair.

Pros: Great salary, good work/life balance, and overall, people are helpful and can learn from them.
Cons: Capital One does rank stacking. Once they hire people and go above a certain number for ranks, they start to put people in PIP. Unfortunately, I was one of them, even though I met all the requirements. They gave some BS excuse to put me in PIP. They set you up for failure, and my manager basically said no matter how good you do in PIP, you will get fired. It's a good job, but it's very uncertain how long you will stay there; anyone can be let go at any time.
