Learned a lot, but it's a hard company to succeed at on merit alone
- Still a lot of smart people around the organization.
- Some interesting technologies to work with; still the dominant player in the networking space.
- Great benefits and all the perks of working for a big company.
- Hard to succeed, get promoted, or get recognized if you aren't overtly political.
- Really poor senior management decision-making. When Chambers said Cisco's strategy was sound but execution was failing, I had to ask, "Flip anyone?"
Let John Chambers go. Exit everything but routers and switches (and perhaps any embedded devices that could take advantage of IPv6). Make network management a priority.
