Pros
  • Still a lot of smart people around the organization.
  • Some interesting technologies to work with; still the dominant player in the networking space.
  • Great benefits and all the perks of working for a big company.
Cons
  • Hard to succeed, get promoted, or get recognized if you aren't overtly political.
  • Really poor senior management decision-making. When Chambers said Cisco's strategy was sound but execution was failing, I had to ask, "Flip anyone?"
Advice to Management

Let John Chambers go. Exit everything but routers and switches (and perhaps any embedded devices that could take advantage of IPv6). Make network management a priority.
